About BMP

Brad-Mar-Pine Athletic Association has sponsored baseball and softball programs for thousands of kids in our community for more than 50 years. In 2014 alone, more than 600 kids from ages 4-18 played in 20 different Spring, Summer and Fall baseball and softball leagues. As our name suggests, our principal footprint includes the communities of Bradfordwoods, Marshall Township and Pine Township, including the surrounding areas in Wexford and Franklin Park. These are the communities in which our ball fields are located and our membership is drawn primarily from Bradfordwoods Elementary School, Marshall Elementary School and Wexford Elementary School.

However, we do not have geographic boundaries and kids from a variety of different communities in the northern Pittsburgh suburbs play baseball or softball with BMP. Our goal is to give as many kids as possible the opportunity to learn and play baseball and softball in a fun and instructive environment, with opportunities for more competitive baseball and softball experiences both in house and during the summer tournament season.

We are affiliated with PONY (Protect Our Nations Youth), a national youth baseball and softball organization.  As a PONY organization, once our kids have completed the T-ball and manager pitch introductory baseball levels, our kids play "real" baseball using PONY rules—they get to steal and lead off, pitch from the stretch, and play on diamonds of gradually increasing size beginning at age 9. We have found that kids prefer this to Little League rules which include smaller fields and make kids wait until the kids are older before they let them enjoy these advanced base running and pitching concepts. As we have for many years, we continue to partner with neighboring baseball and softball organizations such as Ingomar Franklin Park Athletic Association, McCandless Athletic Association, and Pine Richland Baseball Softball Association to ensure that kids throughout northern Allegheny County have a diverse and rich baseball and softball experience.

Shetland (T-Ball, Ages 4-6)

Shetland baseball is a non-competitive, instructional program for 4-6 year olds to teach the basic fundamentals of baseball.  All batters will hit the ball from a batting tee which is adjusted to a height that allows the batter to swing level.  Two adult coaches are stationed beyond the infielders in order to provide instruction to all defensive players.  Players rotate through different infield and outfield positions throughout the game.  A softer safety ball is used for all practices and games.  This program emphasizes participation over competition--all players are in the game every inning, game scores are not kept and there are no strikeouts.  The primary goals are to begin to instruct young players in the fundamentals of baseball in a safe and supportive team environment and to develop their enjoyment of the game.  Parental involvement is highly encouraged as we introduce the youngsters to the game of baseball.

Shetland baseball consists of two separate programs--one for our 5-6 year olds and another for our 4 year olds.  In our 5-6 year old program, coaches will begin pitching mid way through the year.  For more information regarding our 4-year-old program, please click on the following link:

Pinto (Manager Pitch, Ages 7-8)

Pinto baseball is largely an instructional league geared toward the continued fostering of interest in the sport. Players will continue to be taught the fundamentals of baseball that they began to learn in Shetland. The catcher position is introduced and the rover position is removed.  The game is played with four outfielders.  Managers will pitch to the players the entire season and games are extended to 6 innings.  As in Shetland, coaches are positioned in the field to provide instruction to fielders.  Safety and enjoyment will be reinforced throughout the season and there is a continued emphasis on creating equal fielding and batting opportunities.  Games are generally played at Braisley Field behind Wexford Elementary School.  Click Here for Map to Braisley Fields at Wexford Elementary School.

Please consider becoming a Pinto baseball coach or manager.  BMP will be providing coaches training in late March, and fundamental drills to be utilized by all teams to help us build consistency within the organization and prepare players and Coaches for Pinto baseball.

League Commissioner:  Jason Mauser (jmauser32@gmail.com)

Mustang (Ages 9-10)

Mustang baseball (ages 9-10) will be the first league for our young ballplayers to experience the full game of baseball.  The players will pitch and all baseball rules apply with the exception of taking lead-offs on the base path.  Our philosophy for Mustang baseball will focus on teaching our players the skills and concepts needed to execute the game as a Team.  Sportsmanship and Teamwork are fundamental building blocks for all good ballplayers.  Players will be exposed to all of the defensive positions and will be given a chance to pitch in game situations after learning their pitching mechanics and passing a simple drill in practice with their coach.  Because of the leap from manager-pitch to player-pitch, the pace of play is a little faster and game intensity rises.  We will utilize the American and National league formats for the 2011 Mustang division; where the intensity of play will be a primary differentiator.  Both leagues will play approximately 15-16 regular season games with a season ending play-off and championship game.  The Mustang American League will have a mix of pure in-house games (all home games) as well as games against other associations (home and away games) such as McCandless Athletic Association.  The Mustang National League may also play some games against other associations such as McCandless Athletic Association.  Player and parent commitment to working on skills everyday outside of practice is encouraged and expected.

For more information about Mustang Baseball, click on the following link:  What to Expect in Mustang Baseball

Please consider becoming a coach for the Mustang League.  BMP will be providing coaches training in late March, and fundamental drills to be utilized by all teams to help us build consistency within the organization and prepare players and Coaches to move onto the Mustang level.

League Commissioner:  Ryan Stulak (ryanstulak@yahoo.com)

Bronco (Ages 11-12)

Bronco baseball expands upon the many baseball fundamentals introduced and learned in Mustang baseball.  The Bronco division introduces players to a longer pitching distance, pitching from the stretch, greater distance between bases, lead-offs, pick-offs and several other nuances that will make the game fun and enjoyable.  Because of the many subtle changes in the game between Mustang and Bronco, the pace of play is a little faster and players are forced to think on their feet more quickly.  We will utilize the American and National league formats for the 2014 Bronco division; where the intensity of play will be a primary differentiator.  Both leagues will play approximately 16 regular season games with either a season ending play-off and championship game or a mid-season mini-tournament.  Bronco will have a mix of pure in-house games (all home games) as well as games against other associations (home and away games) such as McCandless Athletic Association, Mars Athletic Association and Zelienople-Harmony Athletic Association.  Player and parent commitment to working on skills everyday outside of practice is encouraged and expected.

T-Ball Softball (ages 5-6) is a non-competitive, instructional program for 5-6 year olds to learn the basic fundamentals of softball.  All batters will hit the ball from a batting tee in the early part of the season.  As the coaches see progress they will the begin to introduce the girls to pitched balls.  Coaches are stationed beyond the infielders to provide instruction to the defensive players.  Players will rotate through the different infield and outfield positions to learn all aspects of fielding.  The ability to make a defensive play is emphasized over the ability to score runs.  All players are in the field every inning, scores are not kept and there are no strikeouts.  A soft safety ball is used for all games and practices.

The goals of this program are to generate interest in the softball program and provide instruction in the basic fundamentals of softball.  A safe and supportive atmosphere with lots of parental involvement is highly encouraged.

Manager (Slow) Pitch Softball (Ages 8 & Under)

Manager Pitch Softball (otherwise known as 8 and Under) is instructional yet still gives the girls a bit of a competitive experience. The emphasis is on improving basic softball skills. While batting, a coach will deliver pitches. The girls will be encouraged to swing at good pitches and put the ball in play. While fielding, the girls will rotate positions and be encouraged to make the proper throws, catches and/or tags.  Tournament teams are developed at this level to allow for advanced play through the month of July.  A softer "safety" softball is used for in-house play, and then a standard 11" softball is used in tournament play.

Beginning with the 2015 baseball and softball season, Brad-Mar-Pine Athletic Association is required by Pennsylvania law to clear all volunteers through three separate background check processes.  As a result, the BMP background check process has changed. BMP CAN NOT PERMIT ANY VOLUNTEER TO COACH A BASEBALL OR SOFTBALL TEAM UNLESS THE VOLUNTEER HAS COMPLETED THE BACKGROUND CHECK PROCESS.  As practices will start in early April, and the clearance process may take several weeks to complete, you are encouraged to obtain clearances as soon as possible.
